DORA Remediation Technologies LLC (DRT) is pleased to announce DORA™ (Dissolved Oxygen Releasing Agent).

DORA™ is the newest, most effective and economical bioremediation product for delivering dissolved oxygen (DO) to contaminated groundwater systems. DORA™ stimulates native heterotrophic bacteria to metabolize environmental contaminants such as gasoline, diesel, fuel oil, and certain organic solvents. During metabolism, such contaminants are ultimately transformed to carbon dioxide, water and microbial biomass. DORA™ is formulated to release DO slowly over 6 months or longer, and is economical relative to similar commercially available products.

DORA™ is a magnesium peroxide-based product formulated with a non-toxic binding agent to decrease the rate at which magnesium peroxide dissolves, resulting in slow, sustained DO release over time. Studies have shown that unaltered peroxide compounds can release a bulk of their DO load within a few weeks of hydration and therefore are not suitable for many bioremediation applications. Certain providers of magnesium peroxide-based bioremediation products use complex and costly chemical manufacturing processes to decrease the rate of magnesium peroxide dissolution. DRT uses a patented innovative physical process to manufacture DORA™, a product with performance characteristics similar to chemically manufactured products, yet with lower unit cost.

DRT acknowledges the relatively high cost of groundwater remediation technologies, including some bioremediation approaches, and developed DORA™ as an economical alternative to such costly remedies. DORA™ laboratory and bench-scale testing results show it to release DO for more than 6 months once hydrated. During comparative laboratory testing, equivalent product loads of DORA™ and ORC® (manufactured by Regenesis™ Bioremediation Products, Inc.) were evaluated using flow-through microcosms operated at equivalent flow rates. The bulk of influent DO was scrubbed by nitrogen sparging and effluent DO concentrations measured periodically throughout the 6-month study duration. The following figure compares DO results for DORA™ with those for Regenesis' ORC® over the study duration.

While DORA™ yielded comparatively higher DO concentrations for the first few weeks, its performance was ostensibly the same as ORC® over the study duration.
